Stress testing is available at Garcia Medical Center to help evaluate the heart health of our patients. Stress tests are used to evaluate how well the heart can handle increased stress and activity.
This test can be used to evaluate whether a patient has heartbeat irregularities, any chest pain or other symptoms related to the heart, whether treatments are working effectively, or if further testing is needed to detect narrowed arteries.
During the test, patients are hooked up to equipment that allows us to monitor your heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, energy levels, and electrocardiogram. The test begins by walking slowly on a treadmill, and the intensity is adapted using small inclines and speed increases.
After a few minutes, the patient will lie down or sit, and blood pressure will be monitored and measured.
Patients are able to request to discontinue the test at any time if needed.
